A Prototype Mechatronic Device for Upper Limb Rehabilitation and Analysis of Its Functionality Article Swipe

This construction enables the execution of exercises designed for upper limb rehabilitation. The solution incorporates key modules for diagnostics, reporting, and patient feedback (biofeedback). The device consists of a base and three movable arms, each equipped with a container at its end. The central arm is fixed, with a storage container attached to its end, from which the patient retrieves specific elements. The reach of the arms is adjustable. The remaining two arms have task containers mounted at their ends. The concept involves the patient performing various tasks displayed on the screen. The programmed and visualized block arrangements guide the patient in correctly distributing blocks into the left and right containers. The device includes 12 dedicated blocks of different shapes, colours, materials, and textures. Mechatronic solutions have been implemented to support biofeedback, which is crucial for accelerating the rehabilitation process. A control and management software system has been developed. Experimental tests were also conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and validity of the rehabilitation device.
