A Study of Aircraft Operations Noise in the Vicinity of Kuala Lumpur International Airport Article Swipe

The aviation, passenger, and airport operations account for the majority of the airport's noise. This research aims to determine the amount of ambient noise in the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The citizens residing in the vicinity of KLIA have expressed concern regarding the excessive noise level, which warrants the undertaking of this study. Therefore, the research objective is to measure the equivalent continuous sound level (Leq) and Noise and Number Index (NNI) for noise level of KLIA vicinity analysis. The noise level was determined by employing a portable sound level metre at the three locations nearby KLIA. The NNI values for stations 1, 2, and 3, in accordance with the NNI categorization, are 31.6, 32.7, and 33.4, respectively. It is determined that while the noise level is perceptible at all three sites, it does not approach an invasive level. Conversely, the Leq at all three locations surpasses the Department of Environment permitted noise threshold. In summary, the level of noise in residential areas is substantial and warrants the attention of the appropriate authorities.
