A Amazônia é um bioma único no mundo, é de uma riqueza de biodiversidade imensurável, com 25% da biodiversidade do planeta. A Amazônia é uma região rica em água doce, com a bacia do Rio Amazonas gerando entre 16% a 20% de toda a água doce do planeta e contendo, inclusive, o Rio Amazonas que é o rio mais extenso e volumoso do mundo. A bacia amazônica contem, ainda, mais espécies de peixes do que qualquer outro sistema fluvial existente mas, que entretanto, apresenta muitas fragilidades, inclusive porque a legislação para a proteção da Amazônia é frágil e carece de reformulação. No sentido de buscar mitigar os impactos negativos da construção de hidrelétricas, especialmente na degradação hidrológica, que afeta ecossistemas e comunidades locais; ações de geração alternativa de energia sustentável na Amazônia se apresentam como uma ótima solução. O presente artigo utiliza métodos de pesquisa bibliográfica e descritiva para propor a apresentação de alternativas, potenciais e viáveis, existentes no setor energético, em contraponto à geração de energia por hidrelétricas, para o bioma Amazônia, considerando suas características intrínsecas.
