O consumo de alimentos naturais, como as hortaliças, tem aumentado na dieta da população, destacando-se a alface (Lactuca sativa L.) pelo seu valor nutricional e baixo teor calórico. Apesar de seus benefícios nutricionais, esse alimento pode atuar como veículo de transmissão de parasitas, especialmente quando cultivado e comercializado sem controle sanitário. O presente estudo teve como objetivo identificar a presença de parasitas em amostras de alfaces comercializadas na feira livre do município de Guaraí–TO. Foram analisadas dez amostras provenientes de cinco produtores rurais, todas coletadas na feira comunitária local. A análise parasitológica foi realizada pelos métodos de Hoffman, Ritchie e Direto a Fresco. Todas as amostras apresentaram contaminação por estruturas parasitárias, com destaque para Giardia lamblia (53%) e Balantidium coli (32%). O elevado índice de positividade demonstra falhas nas condições higiênico-sanitárias durante o cultivo e comercialização das hortaliças. Conclui-se que medidas preventivas, como a higienização adequada e o uso de água tratada na irrigação, são essenciais para garantir a segurança alimentar da população.
