A Terapia fotodinâmica (TFD) é um tratamento baseado na associação de luz, fotossensibilizador (FS), que é uma substância capaz de interagir com a luz, e, na presença de oxigênio molecular gerar espécies reativas de oxigênio.O azul de metileno é um composto muito estudado como FS, assim como a curcumina (CUR), composto natural que vem ganhando destaque recentemente na TFD.Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar e comparar a degradação de curcumina e Azul de Metileno após irradiação com LED.Os FS foram irradiados em biotables com comprimentos de onda de 660 nm e 450 nm e potências de 46,5 mW.cm-² e 110 mW.cm-², a absorbância foi avaliada por espectrofotometria.O azul de metileno possui absorção máxima na casa dos 600 a 700 nm, já a curcumina absorve entre 300 a 450 nm, ambos os FS sofreram degradação com a irradiação, notando-se menos absorbância com doses mais altas de energia.Quando associados, a curcumina possui características que permitem se sobressair ao azul de metileno.Nota-se, para todos os FS, a degradação à medida que a dose de energia da irradiação aumenta.
