Fetal maceration is characterized by degenerative fetal alterations from an intrauterine septic or aseptic process. This study aimed to report a case of fetal maceration in a 1 year and 7 months old female dog, tended to at the Luiz Quintiliano de Oliveira Veterinary Hospital, located at the Veterinary Medicine College of Araçatuba (UNESP-FMVA), approaching and interpreting the ultrasonography signals found. Brownish and fetid vulvar discharge was observed, and the animal was referred for an abdominal ultrasound exam, which revealed uterine dilatation with heterogeneous content and a hyperechoic elliptical structure with posterior acoustic shadowing formation. Therapeutic ovariohysterectomy was adopted, showing the presence of a single fetus with a macerated aspect. The association of ultrasound exam and clinical interpretation was essential to carry out the diagnosis, ensuring an efficient and fast therapeutic conduct.
