Characteristic analysis of space charge in crosslinked polyethylene slices under DC superimposed square wave electric field Article Swipe

Space charge retention occurs in DC transmission systems during Crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) cable operation, which causes electric field distortion and insulation failure. For promoting the operation performance of XLPE cable, this paper builds the space charge test system, tests the steady-state space charge distribution of XPLE material at high and low levels in a single period of DC superimposed square wave electric field, and explores the dynamic behavior changes of space charge at the edge time after changing the pressurization time. The reason and macroscopic behavior of the variation of space charge in materials are analyzed from the mechanical point of view. The experimental results show that when the electric field intensity reaches a certain value, the polar space charge will accumulate at the junction of the two poles and the dielectric. The variation of heteropolar space charge is contrary to the absolute value of applied voltage amplitude before and after the edge time. When the edge time increases, the variation of the peak value of space charge at the interface decreases, and the short edge time is more likely to cause microstructure damage. This paper provides direction for explaining the mechanism of electrical branch initiation of XLPE materials.
