Clean and efficient gradient separation of space Arundo donax whole fraction: contributions to high-value biomass utilization Article Swipe

When attempting to substitute biomass for fossil raw materials, existing options are affected by factors such as the single utilization of components, low efficiency in the separation of all components, and high costs. Here, we have developed an organic acid-enhanced hydrothermal (FAH) pretreatment coupled with organic acid oxidation treatment to establish an efficient hierarchical separation strategy for extracting various components from Arundo donax (AD). Thanks to the enhanced hydrothermal action of of formic acid, the hemicellulose extraction rate from AD can reach 93.43%, with a hemicellulose extraction selectivity of up to 68.59%. Following the synergistic oxidation treatment with formic acid and hydrogen peroxide, approximately 90% lignin extraction rate and over 70% selectivity are realized. This work offers a basis for the targeted high-value utilization of AD various components and paves the way for the mild and effective staged separation of other lignocellulosic biomass.
