One of the oldest and most reputable historical works on travel medicine is Tadbir al-Abdan fi Asfa¯r ('Instructions for Travelers') by Qusta ibn Luqa Baalbakki (820-912 AD), known as Constabulus in the west, 1 which was translated into Persian in the 16th century AD 2 (Figure 1), and edited and translated into the English version, Qusta ibn Luqa's Medical Regime for the Pilgrims to Mecca, by Gerrit Bos in 1992. 3onstabulus, while considering medieval travel that involved walking for long periods, such as during the Hajj journey, spoke of matters related to health and medical care in travel over 14 chapters. 3The current paper reviews the content of this book according to the various fields of travel medicine.
