This paper indicates the Northern Ireland (NI) rural areas’ contribution to the whole NI economy, studies NI rural and urban different economic structures, and examines interdependencies within and between rural and urban economy. A rural-urban Social Accounting Matrix for NI (NISAM) is built through a systematically spatial division methodology, as well as a sectoral disaggregation of the predominantly rural based agri-food industries. The developed bi-regional NISAMis further used as a basis for the SAM multiplier analysis. The output multiplier results demonstrate the closely relationships between NI rural and urban industries, especially NI agri-food industries linkages with the wider economy.
