La rebelión de los moriscos (1568-1571) en el reino de Granada es consecuencia inmediata del providencialismo iniciado en el reinado de Felipe II. Los hechos ocurridos durante la contienda ayudaron a perfeccionar el modelo político del monarca, así como a mejorar las características formales del ejército real. El trabajo, redactado en clave de historia de la cultura, revela el destacado papel de la contienda granadina en el afianzamiento del modelo providencialista, y que tiene su más inmediata consecuencia en Lepanto.
