En este trabajo se describe una metodología enfocada a mejorar la comprensión del ciclo termodinámico de motores a reacción mediante la combinación de un estudio del caso y un entorno de simulación. La metodología se desarrolla para estudiantes de la asignatura de Propulsión del Grado en Ingeniería Aeroespacial. En particular, se pide a los estudiantes analizar con detalle el impacto de las dos principales condiciones de contorno que afectan a las prestaciones del motor: altitud y velocidad de vuelo (o Mach). El estudio del caso se hace en grupos de cinco estudiantes, y ha mostrado resultados positivos tanto en rendimiento académico cmo en cuanto a la implicación del alumnado en general. No obstante se han identificado algunos aspectos a mejorar. Por un lado, el aumento del número la diversidad del alumnado ha desafiado la organización del trabajo, mostrando peores resultados en grupos con estudiantes que tenían un bagaje diferente al habitual. Por otro lado, hay una aparente desconexión entre la metodología usada y la organización de otras asignaturas de la misma área de conocimiento del grado. Se propone una actualización de la metodología para mejorar ambos aspectos.
