<title>UNSTRUCTURED</title> Faculty development in academic medicine is important to promote personal and professional growth over the course of a career. Faculty retreats have increasingly emerged as a faculty development strategy which can broadly impact individual as well as departmental or institutional needs; however, limited resources are available, with specificity to academic medicine, to guide a department or other organizers on how to implement a faculty retreat. As such, this review attempts to consider the impact of faculty retreats as well as provide structure and organization for an effective retreat planning strategy, including pre-retreat needs assessment, implementation, and post-retreat considerations.
