Flexocaloric effect near a ferroelastic transition

A Ginzburg-Landau model embedded into a vibrational model is used to study the flexocaloric effect in a beam near a ferroelastic transition. The caloric response upon bending is characterized by the isothermal entropy change and the adiabatic temperature change of the beam. Here, we obtain a larger response relative to the strength of the applied forces at temperatures slightly above the transition temperature.
