As the official journal of the British Paediatric Neurology Association (BPNA), it is a great pleasure to publish and archive the abstracts that will be presented at the BPNA 2024 Annual Conference in Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology (DMCN). They reflect important developments in the field, from better recognition of genomics to understand and diagnose diseases to design and assessment of targeted therapies, from progress in fetal and neonatal neurology to attention on the transition of children with neurological disorders to adulthood, from local improvement in service to a global perspective, and from advances in technology to parents' goals and values. Many of the abstracts result from international and indeed interdisciplinary collaboration. All were carefully selected by the Conference’s scientific committee. Readers must have in mind, however, that abstracts are but one aspect of the reported research, which can be fully appreciated only in actual presentation and discussion that this will generate. We hope that many of these will then evolve into full papers that can be submitted to this journal (or elsewhere), to undergo full review and editorial process, and hopefully get published in order to benefit clinical practice and improve the lives of children with neurological disorders.
