O artigo apresenta um retrato descritivo do Programa de Trabalho Protegido na Adolescência (PTPA) – que oferece formação profissional em articulação com o currículo escolar e oportunidades de estágio para jovens com idade entre 15 e 17 anos. Trata-se da faixa etária que mais desafios oferece ao sistema educacional brasileiro. É, por conseguinte, relevante compreender regularidades que predominam em meio à diversidade dos modos de ser adolescente. O objetivo é investigar as condições de possibilidade para o desenvolvimento das vocações múltiplas expressas pela(o)s estudantes inscrita(o)s no PTPA. Recorreu-se com este intento à realização de um minicenso junto a uma amostra de cerca de 700 participantes do programa. Os dados estatísticos assim produzidos foram interpretados à luz da bibliografia etnográfica disponível. Destaca-se alguns resultados relevantes, tais como 1- a necessidade de maior integração orgânica entre a formação escolar e as habilidades exigidas pelo mundo do trabalho; 2- a centralidade dos regimes de sociabilidade juvenis para a compreensão de seu universo social e 3- as diferentes condições sociais de experiência adolescente, marcadas por desvantagens cumulativas relacionadas ao fenômeno da interseccionalidade. Conclui-se que a adolescência, nos contextos sociais cobertos pelo PTPA, enfrenta obstáculos para seu desenvolvimento pleno, mas também potências criativas de transformação social.
