The manipulation of electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation and light-matter interactions have been of interest in multiple disciplines spanning from chemistry, physics, and engineering to optics, materials science and thermodynamics.In this context, research, and innovation in metamaterials and metasurfaces has provided the scientific and industrial communities the tools to enable an arbitrary control of EM waves.This is due to the fact that metamaterials and metasurfaces can be engineered to achieve responses not always readily available in natural media [1], enabling their implementation for new and improved devices including lenses, antennas, sensors, computing structures, artificial intelligence-based designs, among others [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12].All these applications consider light-matter interactions in three-dimensions (x,y,z).Recently, the introduction of "time" as another variable for material parameters has become a hot research topic as they may enable richer manipulation of EM waves both in space and time [13-16], providing higher degrees of freedom in light-matter interaction.In this invited talk, we will present an overview of our recent efforts in this field by considering that the relative permittivity ( ) of the medium where the wave is traveling is modulated in time, ().Different scenarios will be discussed such as the basic concepts of temporal boundaries, antireflection temporal coatings, temporal anisotropy and effective medium concepts in space and time [17][18][19][20].
