Albrecht Dürer, a pivotal figure of the Northern Renaissance, extensively explored the mathematical principles of human proportion, culminating in his posthumously published "Four Books on Human Proportion" (1528). This paper argues that Dürer's systematic geometricization of the human form transcended mere artistic technique; it represented a profound manifestation of the Northern Humanist project to achieve an ideal, harmonious order. Drawing inspiration from classical antiquity and contemporary Italian Renaissance masters, Dürer sought to establish universal canons of beauty and form through rigorous measurement and geometric construction. These efforts were not confined to the realm of aesthetics but extended into a broader philosophical quest for perfection, echoing the utopian aspirations prevalent in Northern Humanism. By codifying ideal human dimensions, Dürer provided a tangible, visual blueprint for an imagined perfect state, where physical harmony mirrored moral and intellectual excellence. His work, therefore, offers a unique lens through which to understand how Northern Humanists envisioned and sought to concretize their ideals of a reformed world. This analysis reveals how the pursuit of geometric perfection in Dürer's art served as a powerful metaphor for the construction of a rational, ordered, and ultimately utopian society.
