The dissenting opinion is an integral part of human nature. The status of Islamic sources may be understood differently by some scholars which leads to opine differently. Keeping in view the evidence given by the scholars, a dispute may be resolved. The importance of this issue increases if such an issue has any relevance to the shar‘īah. In a society where followers of multiple sects are living, the issue becomes more important if the scholars of different sects issue different fātwā on the same issue. The social media has become the hub of such fatāwā. In such a situation, the black sheep find the ground to malign the religion and laymen get confused about the religion. In such conditions, what should a layman do to compline with the sharī‘ah rulings? There are various opinions about this situation. This study concludes based on an analytical study that a layman in such a condition should practice his educational capabilities to find out the verdict given by various scholars which is closer to the sharī‘ah and then act upon it.
