यस अनुसन्धानले त्रिवेणी धाम र रामग्राम स्तूपलाई केन्द्रमा राखेर नेपालको स्थानीय आर्थिक विकासमा धार्मिक पर्यटनले पार्ने प्रभावको जाँच गरेको छ। स्थानीय समुदायका सदस्यहरू, कम्पनी मालिकहरू साथै पर्यटन सरोकारवालाहरूसँग ३ वटा समूह केन्द्रित छलफल (नेक) र ६ वटा प्रमुख सूचनाकर्ता अन्तर्वार्ता (इन्क) जस्ता गुणात्मक विधिमा अनुसन्धान केन्द्रित गरिएको छ। यस अनुसन्धानले मुख्य रूपमा तीन प्राथमिक विषयवस्तुहरू आर्थिक परिवर्तन्, सामाजिक सांस्कृतिक प्रभाव र दीगोपन चुनौतीलाई पहिचान गरेको छ। यस अध्ययनले धार्मिक पर्यटनले करारी पूर्वाधारमा सुधार गरेको छ, स्थानीय व्यवसायहरूलाई समर्थन गरेको छ र रोजगारीको सम्भावना सिर्जना गरेको छ साथै दीर्घकालीन आर्थिक वृद्धिमा करीबी योगदान पुर्याएको छ भन्ने निष्कर्ष निकालेको छ। ठूला व्यवसायले साना व्यवसायहरुभन्दा बढी लाभ लिएको हुनाले लाभको वितरण अझै असमान छ। अपुरो व्यवसायिक नमुनाको कारण पर्यटकहरूको आगमनले सांस्कृतिक आत्मसात् र पुरातात्त्विक व्यवस्थापनका समस्या दुबै निम्त्याएको छ। अध्ययनको क्रममा पर्यावरणीय हानी, फोहोर व्यवस्थापन र जनसंख्याको वृद्धि जस्ता दीगोपन चिन्ताहरू पनि भेटिएका छन्। अनुसन्धान अनुसार धार्मिक पर्यटनले धेरै फाइदा भए पनि वातावरणीय दिगोपन, सांस्कृतिक संरक्षण र आर्थिक वृद्धिसँग सन्तुलन कायम गर्ने उद्देश्य सहितका समाजले लाभ लिनुपर्ने देखिन्छ। सिफारिस गरिएको गतिविधिहरूमध्ये धार्मिक पर्यटन स्थलहरूलाई व्यवस्थित बनाउन र समाज लाभ साझा गर्ने सुनिश्चितता आवश्यक छ। धार्मिक पर्यटनका फाइदा अधिकतम बनाउन यस अनुसन्धानले दीर्घकालीन योजना र सामुदायिक संलग्नताको आवश्यकता लाई जागर गरेको छ।
