This paper focuses on the analysis of the infeed process during gear hobbing. A penetration calculation for the simulation of gear hobbing has been extended in order to analyze the geometric penetration values for variable infeed strategies. With this method, the influence of the infeed angle on the cutting conditions is analyzed and evaluated with regard to the tool load. For the investigated tool-workpiece-combination, a nonlinear regression has been conducted in order to design the process according to the maximum chip thickness. The paper concludes with the presentation of the effect of the infeed angle on characteristic machining values.
