Maintenance jobs are an important aspect of manufacturing systems and compete for the same resources of the production jobs. Even though literature has pointed operational benefits of integrating the production and maintenance plans, there is the gap of handling the problem in a simulation-based approach that is responsive to disturbances. This paper aims to propose an adaptive method for integrating production and maintenance planning using simulation-based optimization. The method is tested in a simulation model of a semiconductor factory. Results show improvements on key performance indicators when compared to scenarios with simple dispatching rules.
