The articles in this special issue showcase a diverse set of insights and issues that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic when unexpected constraints forced employers and educational institutions to change their practices.Our special issue underscores the rapid adaptation and potential long-term changes in educational and professional landscapes due to the pandemic.It reveals both the opportunities and challenges brought by the shift to remote learning and work, emphasizing the need for continued innovation, equity considerations, and support systems in these evolving and interconnected environments.We can say with confidence that the pandemic did not cause a Kuhnian paradigm shift in schools and workplaces, many of which were eager to return to "normal life."However, the pandemic swept over the academic and professional landscape like a digital wave, and, although much of the water seeped away in subsequent years, it left a soil rich in nutrients for new innovative ideas to sprout and take root.
