Les forêts de Guyane représentent en superficies un tiers de la forêt française. Un territoire immenses et largement inhabité, dont la gestion revient pour les deux tiers à l'Office national des forêts (ONF), le Parc amazonien de Guyane (PAG) couvrant le tiers sud du territoire. d'où la nécessité de disposer d'une vue d'ensemble de la diversité et de la fragilité du couvert forestier.
