Introducción: La inteligencia artificial (IA), como parte de la revolución digital, está transformando la economía, la sociedad y los sistemas políticos a nivel global. El sistema educativo, especialmente la educación superior, no es ajeno a estos cambios y está experimentando un cambio de paradigma. En este trabajo se pone el foco en el impacto que tiene la IA en la manera de aprender y asumir el reto educativo por parte del alumnado universitario y se centra en sus percepciones acerca de las potencialidades de estas herramientas. Para ello, se analizan los riesgos y beneficios identificados por 88 estudiantes del grado de Pedagogía de la Actividad Física y Deporte de una universidad pública de Ecuador. Metodología: Es un estudio cualitativo, se realizó el análisis del discurso de los acuerdos alcanzados por 9 grupos focales donde participaron estudiantes. Discusión: Permite observar que los beneficios están asociados a la innovación educativa y la personalización del aprendizaje; por el contrario, preocupa la deshumanización del proceso educativo y la pérdida de competencias básicas como el pensamiento crítico. Conclusión: Se propone una reflexión sobre la importancia de la mediación pedagógica para evitar las amenazas identificadas.
