Madame Bovary et le bovarysme sur la scène littéraire yiddish au début du XXe siècle : de la traduction à l'interprétation culturelle Article Swipe
Le cas de la réception yiddish de Madame Bovary peut sembler sans grande originalité, au prisme de la quantité d’ouvrages européens alors en circulation en Europe centrale et orientale, qu’il s’agisse d’originaux, de traductions allemandes, russes ou même yiddish, au début du siècle. Et pourtant, Madame Bovary peut difficilement, dans les milieux intellectuels, être reçu sans tenir compte des développements critiques liés à la conceptualisation de l’œuvre flaubertienne sous le nom de bovarysme et de ce que la réception de l’œuvre a pu impliquer pour les développements littéraires sur la scène yiddish au début du XXe siècle. Comment le monde yiddish a-t-il hérité du bovarysme (qu’il soit nommé tel quel ou illustré par les textes littéraires) ? Pourquoi s’est-il particulièrement saisi de l’œuvre flaubertienne au moment même où il opérait un tournant et affirmait une sensibilité moderne en rupture avec des schèmes traditionnels d’écriture ? Par une étude de la réception du modèle d’Emma Bovary dans les milieux littéraires et critiques et une comparaison avec d’autres concepts hérités de la littérature européenne, comme l’oblomovisme, il s’agit de montrer que le passage de la traduction à la conceptualisation du roman flaubertien a encouragé une véritable interprétation culturelle de Madame Bovary en Europe centrale et orientale.
