Optical displacement sensors are widely employed in various fields due to their broad measurement range, high resolution, and exceptional precision. However, their sensitivity and measurement accuracy are inherently limited by the frequency stability of the laser source. In this work, we propose an achromatic high-precision optical displacement measurement scheme based on Pancharatnam–Berry phase encoding for circularly polarized light with opposite handedness, achieved through the transverse displacement of a test sample (metasurface). The transverse displacement is measured by analyzing the polarization state of linearly polarized light, which is generated by recombining two circularly polarized beams of opposite chirality through a symmetric optical path. We demonstrate that this scheme exhibits achromatic characteristics across the C-band (1530–1560 nm), achieving a sensitivity of 2π/2.5 μm (corresponding to the periodic variation of light intensity induced by displacement), a resolution better than 760 pm, and a measurement precision within the bandwidth being 3%. This method is anticipated to substantially propel the development of transverse displacement measurement technologies, presenting a highly robust and versatile solution tailored for high-precision applications.
