It has been known for some time the abnormal function of mitochondria is associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Parkinson', Alzheimer's, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Huntington's diseases.
