Moisture boundness characterization is important for the correct selection and design of sludge treatment technologies. The present project aims at covering the knowledge gaps about moisture boundness in faecal sludge. The results showed that unbound moisture can be found above 70%wt moisture content, capillary moisture in the range 70-30%wt, and vicinal and internal moisture below 30%wt.unbound and capillary moisture removal changed considerably the mechanical, thermal, chemical and biological properties, of faecal sludge. The heat of drying was higher than the latent heat of water vaporization, highlighting the strong influence of moisture boundness on the energy required for drying.
