Myco-Insect Predictive Ecology (MIPE): Fungal and Lichen Bioindicators as Early Detectors of Precursor Insect Assault in Tree Immune Collapse Article Swipe
This manuscript advances Myco-Insect Predictive Ecology (MIPE) as a mature, integrated framework for early detection of tree immune collapse. By fusing three prior 2025 papers on the Insect-Precursor Hypothesis (IPH), it establishes fungal and lichen guilds (e.g., Capnodium sooty molds, Grosmannia blue-stains) as Phase 0 sentinels that flag biochemical shifts from precursor insects like lanternflies and borers—extending warning times by 3–9 months. The four-phase cascade, empirical validations across Syringa, Fraxinus, and Pinus, retrospective chestnut analysis, genomic predictions, and a global decade-long protocol provide a complete predictive toolkit for forest restoration and management.
