Nghiên cứu mô tả cắt ngang thực hiện trên 304 sinh viên năm nhất và năm hai ngành Y tế công cộng tại Trường Đại học Y Hà Nội và Trường Đại học Y tế công cộng nhằm mô tả nhận thức và các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến lựa chọn ngành học. Kết quả cho thấy 88,2% sinh viên tiếp cận thông tin liên quan đến ngành học khi đang học lớp 12, nhưng chỉ 33,6% sinh viên lựa chọn ngành y tế công cộng là nguyện vọng 1. Đa số sinh viên có nhận thức tích cực về vai trò ngành và chương trình đào tạo (điểm trung bình 3,8 ± 0,6 và 3,9 ± 0,7), tuy nhiên nhận thức về cơ hội nghề nghiệp còn hạn chế (3,2 ± 0,5). Dữ liệu định tính cho thấy quyết định lựa chọn ngành học chịu ảnh hưởng bởi các yếu tố cá nhân (sở thích, định hướng nghề nghiệp), định hướng từ gia đình, điểm chuẩn và điều kiện học tập, cũng như khả năng tiếp cận thông tin ngành học. Nghiên cứu nhấn mạnh cần tăng cường tư vấn hướng nghiệp và truyền thông định hướng ngành học từ bậc phổ thông.
