Hoại tử thượng bì nhiễm độc (TEN) và hội chứng Stevens-Johnson (SJS) là các phản ứng da-niêm mạc cấp tính, đe dọa tính mạng, thường do thuốc. Tế bào Th2 và interleukin-31 (IL-31) do Th2 tiết ra, được cho là có liên quan đến SJS/TEN. Nghiên cứu này được thực hiện nhằm xác định vai trò và các yếu tố ảnh hưởng của IL-31 ở các bệnh nhân SJS/TEN. Đây là nghiên cứu mô tả cắt ngang, nồng độ IL-31, IL-15 huyết thanh ở các bệnh nhân SJS/TEN và người khỏe mạnh được đo bằng kỹ thuật hấp phụ miễn dịch vi hạt đánh dấu huỳnh quang. Kết quả cho thấy có 26 bệnh nhân (12 nam, 14 nữ; 10 bệnh nhân SJS và 16 bệnh nhân TEN), trung vị tuổi ở nhóm SJS và TEN lần lượt là 49,5 và 51, có 18 người khỏe mạnh tham gia nghiên cứu. Nồng độ interleukin-31 ở nhóm SJS có trung vị là 0,22 pg/ml (khoảng tứ phân vị: 0,14-2,85 pg/ml) cao hơn so với nhóm khỏe mạnh (p<0,05), nhóm TEN có trung vị là 0,14 pg/ml (khoảng tứ phân vị: 0,14-0,81 pg/ml), không cao hơn so với nhóm khỏe mạnh. Có mối tương quan giữa nồng độ interleukin-31 với nồng độ interleukin-15 ở nhóm SJS (r=0,899 và p<0,001). Interleukin-31 có thể có vai trò trong cơ chế bệnh sinh của SJS/TEN, đặc biệt là SJS.
