Fusion–fission hybrid reactors are concepts of subcritical reactors based on the coupling of fusion and fission devices. In this case, the fusion reactor would work as an external neutron supplier for the fission core of the machine. Such systems could, in principle, operate as multi-purpose machines, such as energy generators, breeders and waste burners.
