Kiểm tra không phá hủy bằng siêu âm (NDT) là phương pháp phát hiện khuyết tật mà không gây hại cho đối tượng được kiểm tra. Các hệ thống đo đang sử dụng hiện nay đa số là nhập ngoại, thường có chi phí đầu tư ban đầu cao và đòi hỏi người vận hành có kiến thức chuyên sâu về chẩn đoán sức khỏe công trình và xử lý tín hiệu. Trong bài báo này, tác giả trình bày nghiên cứu phát triển thử nghiệm hệ NDT đo bề mặt kết cấu bê tông giá thành rẻ. Hệ thống dựa trên phương pháp tính toán ToF cho chip xử lý tín hiệu ATmega128 trên bo Arduino với dữ liệu từ cảm biến siêu âm thương mại phổ thông SRF05. Hệ thống trước hết được thử nghiệm để tìm ra khoảng cách đo tối ưu giữa bề mặt bê tông và cảm biến. Với khoảng cách tối ưu được sử dụng khoảng 50 mm, các phép đo được thực hiện trên toàn bộ bề mặt mẫu trong phòng thí nghiệm. Dữ liệu đo được phân tích bằng chương trình máy tính và có thể ánh xạ 2D bề mặt gồm các khu vực phẳng, gồ ghề của bê tông tương đối chính xác. Kết quả nghiên cứu ban đầu này góp phần phát triển các thiết bị NDT ứng dụng trong xây dựng công trình giao thông với giá thành thấp, đồng thời mở ra hướng tiếp cận nội địa hóa công nghệ, giảm phụ thuộc vào các thiết bị nhập khẩu
