Objetivou-se com esse trabalho identificar a orientação de nidificação das colmeias em árvores na Zona da Mata Pernambucana, verificando a altura do orifício de entrada da colmeia com relação ao solo e diâmetro do tronco das árvores hospedeiras. No seu aspecto metodológico, buscou-se através de uma pesquisa de campo identificar as árvores hospedeiras de ninhos de abelhas nativas, analisando a altura do orifício de entrada da colmeia ao nível do solo, o diâmetro do tronco da árvore, a coordenada geográfica e a orientação magnética da direção dos orifícios de entrada das colmeias. Foi identificado que 30% das abelhas indígenas da zona da mata possuem seus orifícios de nidificação com orientação para o Sudoeste (SO); 30% das colmeias foram encontradas em cajueiro (Anacardium occidentale L.) e 25% em oliveira (Olea europaea L.) e 25% em pitangueira (Eugenia uniflora L.); foram encontradas 20 (vinte) espécies de abelhas indígenas, das quais 55% são da espécie Frieseomelitta dispar; 55% nidificaram nas árvores entre 1,01-1,50 m de altura; 50% das colmeias nidificaram em árvores com diâmetro do tronco entre 0-0,50 cm. Conclui-se que majoritariamente as abelhas indígenas encontradas na Zona da Mata Pernambucana (ZMP) possuem seus orifícios de nidificação com orientação para o Sudoeste (SO), demonstrando predominância de nidificação para as espécies arbóreas para A. occidentale L. Verificou-se que entre os meliponíneos da ZMP há prevalência de F. dispar (55%); os meliponíneos encontrados na ZMP preferem nidificar nas hospedeiras arbóreas a uma altura entre 1,01-1,50 m em relação ao solo; o diâmetro do tronco das árvores de maior preferência na nidificação das espécies de meliponíneos na ZMP é até 0,50 cm (50%) e 1,01-1,50 m (30%).
