Arthur Schopenhauer's philosophy, primarily articulated in "The World as Will and Representation," offers a radical reinterpretation of the Absolute, positing it not as a rational, knowable entity but as a blind, insatiable, and irrational cosmic Will. This paper explores Schopenhauer's idealism of the Will as a distinctive response to Immanuel Kant's transcendental idealism, arguing that Schopenhauer moved beyond Kant's unknowable noumenon by identifying it with an immanent metaphysical principle accessible through introspection. We analyze how Schopenhauer constructs his dual-aspect metaphysics of Will and Representation, examining the nature of the Will as a groundless, timeless, and spaceless unity that objectifies itself in a hierarchy of Platonic Ideas, culminating in the phenomenal world. The paper delves into the implications of this re-conception for human suffering, aesthetics, ethics, and the possibility of redemption through the denial of the will to live. Furthermore, it discusses Schopenhauer's critique of other post-Kantian idealists, particularly his rejection of Hegelian rationalism, and traces his enduring influence on subsequent thinkers like Nietzsche and Freud. By systematically unpacking Schopenhauer's arguments, this study aims to clarify the profound originality and pervasive pessimism of his idealism, establishing its unique position in the history of philosophy. This paper specifically highlights how Schopenhauer's system represents a unique form of 'pessimistic idealism,' where the ultimate 'ideal' state is attained through the radical negation of the very metaphysical principle (the Will) that constitutes reality, thereby offering a novel perspective on idealism as a pathway to liberation from the fundamental nature of existence.
