In 2022, we argued that replication is relevant to qualitative research. In this manuscript, we update and clarify that idea to make three more specific claims about replication in qualitative research: (1) it is possible, (2) it can be relevant, and (3) it can be useful. We provide practical examples and draw attention to two areas we believe need continued consideration: when to conduct a replication, jingle-jangle problems. We conclude that quantitative tools should not automatically be assumed to apply to qualitative research or forced upon qualitative researchers. However, this should not be conflated with the more extreme position—one we disagree with—that methods from quantitative research should never be applied to qualitative research.
