Soft tissue-mimicking hydrogel stiffness directs macrophage polarisation: soft gels (~0.25 kPa) induce anti-inflammatory responses, while stiffer ones (~4.5 kPa) trigger inflammation, underscoring macrophages’ sensitivity to subtle mechanical changes.
