Statistical models for CMS-HIG-22-012 non resonant analysis Article Swipe
Introduction This resource contains the full statistical model for CMS Combine ref v10.3.2 related to the nonresonant interpretation of the paper "Search for the nonresonant and resonant production of a Higgs boson in association with an additional scalar boson in the \(\gamma\gamma\tau\tau\) final state in proton-proton collisions at \(\sqrt{s}\) = 13 TeV", by the CMS collaboration. The instructions below include the commands needed to reproduce the workspaces used for the results presented in the publication. For additional technical documentation please consult the CMS Combine documentation. Requirements Since the datacards (besides txt files) often include binary files such as ROOT files, the repository is set up to use Git Large File Storage to track them. This makes cloning the repository much more efficient. In case that you do not have git lfs installed on your system, please follow the git lfs installation instructions. For the commands below, you may require running ulimit -s unlimited; ulimit -u unlimited to avoid memory issues. Analysis specific instructions The instructions below include the Combine version, commands used to create RooFit workspaces and the combine commands to produce the analysis measurements. All of the relevant options for combine commands are documented as well. Combine version: v10.3.2 Datacard description The full datacard for the nonresonant analysis is provided, which includes the analytic probability density functions of \(m_{\gamma\gamma}\) for signal and backgrounds in each analysis category. The systematic model and their descriptions are also provided. Example commands To generate the .root workspace execute: text2workspace.py input/Datacard.txt -o ws.root -m 125.38 higgsMassRange=122,128 Limits on the nonresonant HH search are extracted by running: combine --redefineSignalPOI r -M AsymptoticLimits -m 125.38 -d ws.root --freezeParameters MH --cminDefaultMinimizerStrategy 0 --X-rtd MINIMIZER_freezeDisassociatedParams --X-rtd MINIMIZER_multiMin_hideConstants --X-rtd MINIMIZER_multiMin_maskConstraints --X-rtd MINIMIZER_multiMin_maskChannels=2 The output should be: -- AsymptoticLimits ( CLs ) -- Observed Limit: r < 32.5422 Expected 2.5%: r < 11.4844 Expected 16.0%: r < 16.6754 Expected 50.0%: r < 26.2500 Expected 84.0%: r < 43.8284 Expected 97.5%: r < 72.5111 This corresponds to an observed (expected) 95% CL upper limits of 33 (26) times the SM prediction.
