Over the past three centuries, thousands of people across the British and Irish Isles have regularly recorded rainfall, often every day for decades. Their efforts allow us to reconstruct long‐term trends and variations in rainfall with high spatial detail for the whole of the UK since 1836, and longer for certain regions. Here we recognise some of the individuals who made particularly important contributions in the earliest years of organised rainfall monitoring.
