In the context of reconciliation, this article looks at the “unthinkable” option of international adjudication to resolve the territorial sovereignty and maritime boundary disputes between China, Japan and Korea in the East China Sea/Yellow Sea and East Sea/Sea of Japan. While understanding that such an eventuality is unlikely, the article suggests certain political conditions that could increase the likelihood of this approach being adopted.
