La modernizacion de la vitivinicultura catalana y el desarrollo del asociacionismo agrario estan intimamente relacionados. Sus inicios respectivos se situan en un contexto comun: las crisis de malvenda del vino catalan, estudiadas por autores como Pujol, Garrabou, y Colome.1 Tanto los intentos de modernizacion tecnologica, como el movimiento cooperativo son reacciones a estas crisis de sobreproduccion. Crisis que incrementaron las tensiones politicas y sociales en el campo, desembarcando en las luchas sociales de los anos treinta.
