Welland Postcards, 1906, 1909 Article Swipe
Two black and white postcards from Welland, Ontario. \n \nBoth postcards are addressed to Mr. G.M. Johnson, 9717 Houston Avenue, South Chicago, Illinois. \n \nThe 1906 postcard shows the Monarch which is a dipper dredge. The words “M. Beatty & Sons Welland” are written beside the boat. The message says “Hoping you all had a happy Thanksgiving. What they make where I work. Easy graft. How is the ‘Old Town’ Canadian Thanksgiving Day” Oct 18 – so much ‘Yankee’ Had to lay off today. Best regards to all. W. McGuire Jr. Welland ‘Happy’ “ The card has a one cent stamp and is postmarked November 29, 1906, Welland Ontario. \n \nThe 1909 postcard shows a wood frame house with a lady outside. The message says “Dear Friend Squire …Rec’d letter the other day. Was sorry to hear you can’t come out this summer. Come out next. This is a picture of our house as is to-day ‘Mack’” The card has a one cent stamp and is postmarked Aug. 24, 1909, Welland, Ontario.
