Germany's agricultural and the transportation sectors are not reducing their overall greenhouse gas emissions. Besides, both sectors provide examples for the needed changes that the majority of people still reject, giving way to memes that serve as counter-arguments. A simulation model shows that Germany could feed its citizens from organic farming, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and minimising environmental impacts. Another shows to what extent battery-driven mobility even for commercial vehicles and short-haul flights and ship transportation would be possible at a global level. Both models need to be seen in a broader picture with use of resources. Agriculture has to share its available area with non-food production and forestry to save fossil resources. Synthetic fuels as alternative to batteries are less efficient and already needed for other purposes. Nevertheless, the political, social, economic and technical contexts of both scenarios are crucial and require systemic reflection.
