The membrane may be a key factor influencing browning: a mini review on browning mechanisms of fresh-cut fruit and vegetables from a multi-omics perspective
2025-02-25 • Yuan Xiao, Zhaoxia Zhan, Wei Lin, Can Zhang, Bin Wang
Fresh-cut fruit and vegetables are susceptible to browning during storage and subsequent consumption. The cell membrane acts as a vital structural barrier, compartmentalizing various substances within living organisms. The fresh-cutting process induces mechanical injuries, disrupting these membranes and resulting in the leakage of cellular contents. This facilitates direct contact between substances and enzymes that mediate browning reactions. This mini review explores the potential roles of cell membranes in the …

Association of dietary inflammatory index with ocular diseases: a population-based cross-sectional study
2025-01-31 • Xue Wang, Can Zhang, Haitao Jiang
Reducing the intake of pro-inflammatory foods may be an effective measure to prevent the onset of ocular disease, including glaucoma, cataract, ARMD, and diabetic retinopathy. However, eating only anti-inflammatory foods is not the best choice.

Subacute ruminal acidosis induces hepatic injury in dairy goats via oxidative stress and ferritinophagy-ferroptosis axis
2025-06-05 • Ning Su, Yanan Zhao, Can Zhang, Yuhong He, Chong Peng, Bo Liu, Caijun Zhao, Xiaoyu Hu, Yunhe Fu, Yang Liu, Yunfeng Qiu
Increasing the proportion of high-concentrate feed in ruminant diets can rapidly enhance milk production and overall performance. Prolonged feeding of high-concentrate (HC) diet may reduce ruminal pH, potentially inducing subacute rumen acidosis (SARA). Large amounts of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) are produced and enter the bloodstream through the damaged rumen barrier, accumulating in the liver tissue, causing inflammation. Studies indicate LPS can induce liver injury in mice through ferroptosis activation. However,…

Anterior lumbar discectomy and fusion: an effective technique in treating lumbar disc herniation—— a retrospective case study
2025-02-18 • Boyan Zhang, Can Zhang, Yueqi Du, Maoyang Qi, Hongfeng Meng, Tianyu Jin, Jialu Wang, Jian Guan, Wanru Duan, Zan Chen
ALDF provides an effective treatment strategy for patients with lumbar disc herniation. This procedure allows direct removal of protruding discs and calcified posterior longitudinal ligaments under the microscope, achieving the goal of direct decompression of the surgical segment. At the same time, it can reduce the damage to posterior muscles and skeletal structures caused by surgery. Comprehensive preoperative assessment and meticulous microscopic operation can help avoid complications such as nerve and vascular…

Association of systemic inflammatory biomarkers with ocular disease: a large population-based cross-sectional study
2025-03-26 • Xue Wang, Haitao Jiang, Can Zhang
Two new systemic inflammatory biomarkers, SII index and SIRI, are closely related to the risk of eye disease. There are different associations between SII index and different ocular diseases. This should raise more concerns and lead to better prevention strategies for systemic inflammation.
