Influence of LO cable movements on VNA measurements using Frequency Extensions

Abstract. In this study, the impact of local oscillator cable movements or drift during VNA measurements using frequency extenders is investigated. A non-reciprocal measurement error caused by alterations of the local oscillator signal in R 900 (WR 10) waveguide measurements from 75 to 110 GHz is observed and systematically analyzed. Furthermore, the theory behind this effect and its implications on measurement results are discussed, as well as possible corrections for both calibrated and raw measurement data.

Achromatic Quarter-Waveplate for the Terahertz Frequency Range Made by 3D Printing

Abstract Here we propose a 3D printed form-birefringent achromatic quarter-waveplate targeting the lower terahertz frequency range. The monolithically fabricated waveplate consists of three individual layers of different thickness and orientation of the stratified structure resulting in the achromatic response. The experimental results show that the performance of the fabricated waveplate fits the optimal behaviour within 5 % in terms of ellipticity and phase shift for frequencies between 75 GHz and 110 GHz.

Therein, different methods for material parameter measurements in the THz spectral range were compared. The different measurement setups included photonic-based (TDS, FDS and TDE), resonant methods and VNA based systems, all of which have unique properties like e.g. spectral coverage. Abstract. In an intercomparison organized within the framework of the German Calibration Service (Deutscher Kalibrierdienst – DKD), seven different calibration laboratories participated in the measurement of the antenna factor for three different antennas according to different standards. Between August 2017 and April 2018, measurements have been performed on a hybrid antenna, a logarithmic-periodic antenna and on an Open Ended Waveguide.
