Tunable magnetic states and spin dynamics in van der Waals crystal Fe<i> x </i>NbS2
2025-06-01 • Shixin Hu, Xu Bai, Qujiang Sun, Desheng Xue, Hua Pang, Junli Zhang
Abstract The manipulation of magnetic states in van der Waals (vdW) materials through stoichiometric engineering holds significant promise for spintronic applications. In Fe x NbS 2 (0.15 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.5), a prototypical vdW magnet exhibiting tunable behaviors including giant exchange bias and spin-glass dynamics, the interplay between iron concentration, magnetic ground states, and electronic states remains unresolved. Through combined magnetization studies and 57 Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, we unravel atomic-scale corr…

Observation of magnonic spin-orbit torque in epitaxial Co films

<title>Abstract</title> Using spin-orbit torque (SOT) to manipulate magnons has played a crucial role in magnon spintronics. However the effect of magnons on SOT remains elusive within the context of electron spintronics. Here, we report the observation of magnon-induced SOT in an epitaxial Co film through precise low-magnetic-field measurements of second harmonic voltages in both longitudinal and transverse directions. Unlike the conventional field-like SOT, which operates independently of the magnetic field, the…

Abstract Using spin-orbit torque (SOT) to manipulate magnons has played a crucial role in magnon spintronics. However, the contribution of magnons to the second harmonic voltage —critical for the calibration of SOT— remains elusive in spintronics. Here, we report the observation of magnon-induced SOT in an epitaxial Co film through precise low-magnetic-field measurements of second harmonic voltages in both longitudinal and transverse directions. Unlike the conventional field-like SOT, which operates independently …

Acoustic spin rotation in heavy-metal-ferromagnet bilayers
2024-02-03 • Yang Cao, Hao Ding, Yalu Zuo, Xiling Li, Yibing Zhao, Tong Li, Na Lei, Jiangwei Cao, Mingsu Si, Li Xi, Chenglong Jia, Desheng Xue, Dezheng Yang
Abstract Through pumping a spin current from ferromagnet into heavy metal (HM) via magnetization precession, parts of the injected spins are in-plane rotated by the lattice vibration, namely acoustic spin rotation (ASR), which manifests itself as an inverse spin Hall voltage in HM with an additional 90° difference in angular dependency. When reversing the stacking order of bilayer with a counter-propagating spin current or using HMs with an opposite spin Hall angle, such ASR voltage shows the same sign, strongly s…

Spin-fluctuation-induced sign reversal of the spin Hall angle in Pt100−x Co x alloys near the Curie temperature

Abstract The spin Hall effect (SHE), typically emerging in non-magnetic metals with strong spin-orbit couplings, has attracted significant attention for its ability to convert a charge current into a spin current, a key feature in power-efficient spintronic devices. Recently, an enhanced SHE has been detected in the magnetic alloys, where the spin Hall conductivity is strongly modified by the dynamical and thermal spin fluctuations. We find that the spin Hall angle ( <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Mat…
