Occurrence of macrolides resistance in Legionella pneumophila ST188: Results of the Belgian epidemiology and resistome investigation of clinical isolates Open
The increase in incidence is of concern and likely an under-estimate due to the reliance on urine antigen testing. Routine typing by cgMLST allows good discrimination and the first clinical isolate reported as resistant for macrolides was …

Comparison of whole genome sequencing typing tools for the typing of Belgian Legionella pneumophila outbreaks isolates Open
Whole genome sequencing (WGS) marks a turning point for outbreak investigations for microorganisms related to public health matters, like Legionella pneumophila (Lp). Here, we evaluated the available Lp WGS typing tools for isolates of pre…

Uncovering Gaps in Knowledge: A Survey of Belgian General Practitioners’ Awareness of Legionnaires’ Disease Diagnostic Testing Open
Background: The incidence of Legionnaires’ disease (LD) is increasing steadily in Europe. Its early diagnosis by general practitioners (GPs) is crucial for better patient outcomes. Study objectives: This study assessed Belgian GPs’ knowled…

From Investigating a Case of Cellulitis to Exploring Nosocomial Infection Control of ST1 Legionella pneumophila Using Genomic Approaches Open
Legionella pneumophila can cause a large panel of symptoms besides the classic pneumonia presentation. Here we present a case of fatal nosocomial cellulitis in an immunocompromised patient followed, a year later, by a second case of Legion…

Multiple interspecies recombination events documented by whole-genome sequencing in multidrug-resistant Haemophilus influenzae clinical isolates Open
Introduction. Haemophilus influenzae ( Hi ) was long known as an easy-to-treat bacterium, but increasing resistance against beta-lactams and other critically important antibiotics is now a growing concern. We describe here the whole-genome…

In Vitro Susceptibility of Achromobacter Species Isolated from Cystic Fibrosis Patients: a 6-Year Survey Open
We conducted in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility testing of 267 Achromobacter isolates for 16 antibiotics from 2017 to 2022. The highest susceptibility was found for piperacillin-tazobactam (70%) and ceftazidime-avibactam (62%).

Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization–Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry for Rapid Detection of Isolates Belonging to the Epidemic Clones Achromobacter xylosoxidans ST137 and Achromobacter ruhlandii DES from Cystic Fibrosis Patients Open
Achromobacter spp. are increasingly reported among cystic fibrosis patients. Genotyping requires time-consuming methods such as multilocus sequence typing or pulsed-field gel electrophoresis.

Genomics of an endemic cystic fibrosis Burkholderia multivorans strain reveals low within-patient evolution but high between-patient diversity Open
Burkholderia multivorans is a member of the Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc), notorious for its pathogenicity in persons with cystic fibrosis. Epidemiological surveillance suggests that patients predominantly acquire B . multivorans from…
