Amino Acid-Based Hydrogel with Interpenetrating Gelatin and Cross-Linked by Metal Ions, Providing High Stretchability and Motion Sensitivity
2025-03-17 • Samaneh Khodami, Klaudia Kaniewska, J. Romański, Marcin Karbarz, Zbigniew Stojek
A double network structure with metal ions was created to enhance the mechanical stability of the hydrogels and increase their low conductivity. For this purpose, the P(AM_AcOr_Gelatin) hydrogel was synthesized by combining gelatin, a biocompatible polymer, N-δ-acryloyl-ornithine (AcOr), an amino acid derivative, and acrylamide (AM). Because the amino acid-based monomer added charged groups to the hydrogel network, the hydrogel exhibited improved conductivity and motion sensitivity properties compared with …

Electroactive and Thermoresponsive Hybrid Microgel on a Gold Surface for Electrochemically Controlled Release of Active Substance
2025-06-13 • Paulina Gwardys, Kamil Marcisz, Damian Jagleniec, J. Romański, Marcin Karbarz
In this study, we present a thermoresponsive and electroactive hybrid microgel immobilized on an electrode surface, designed as a platform for electrochemically induced release of positively charged model substances. The microgel was synthesized using N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPA) copolymerized with sodium acrylate (AcNa) and cross-linked with a cystine derivative (BISS). Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) spheres were incorporated within the microgel matrix, enhancing its electroactive properties. The…

A thermosensitive α-amino acid hydrogel layer deposited on an electrode surface: Actuator and sensor performance
2025-06-11 • Maria Sawicka, Kamil Marcisz, J. Romański, Marcin Strawski, Oleh Smutok, Mykhailo Gonchar, Evgeny Katz, Klaudia Kaniewska, Marcin Karbarz
The aim of this work was the development of a novel stimuli-responsive hydrogel layer containing an acryloyl derivative of an α-amino acid and its electroanalytical characterization. The electroactive, electrosensitive, and thermosensitive gel layer was obtained through a two-step process. First, a hydrogel (p(NIPA-ArOr)) based on N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPA) and an acryloyl derivative of ornithine (ArOr) were synthesized and electrodeposited using electrochemically induced free-radical polymerization. Cyclic volt…

Application of the oxidation reaction of a ferrocene derivative (FcSQC6) as driving force for the transfer of hydrophilic sulfate anions at a three-phase electrode
2025-04-24 • Julia Maciejewska-Komorowska, Karolina Peret, Marta Zaleskaya-Hernik, J. Romański, Martin Jönsson‐Niedziółka
Studies at three-phase electrodes (TPE, glassy carbon electrode, an aqueous and organic solution) are often performed to detect organic and inorganic anions. However, it is difficult to find a redox probe or ionophore that would allow the transfer of highly hydrophilic sulphate ions. Recently, TPE studies of ion pair receptors consisting of a crown ether cation-binding site and a squaramide anion-binding domain have emerged, offering the ability to extract extremely hydrophilic sulphate salts. In this article, we …
