Demographic Factors Influencing Eligibility for EMA in South Australia Open
Background Early medical abortion (EMA) can be performed by administration of mifepristone and misoprostol in an outpatient setting prior to 63 days gestation in Australia. While this is a flexible, efficacious and safe option for abortion…

Oral misoprostol ( PGE1 ) vs vaginal dinoprostone ( PGE2 ) for labor induction: individual participant data meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials Open
Objective To compare the effectiveness and safety of oral misoprostol vs vaginal dinoprostone for the induction of labor (IOL) using an individual participant data (IPD) meta‐analysis. Methods We used a Cochrane review and searched Ovid ME…

Pre-conception lifestyle intervention to optimise maternal health for a better start to life: the BEGIN BETTER prospective randomised controlled trial protocol Open
Introduction Overweight and obesity impacts approximately 50% of pregnant women. Professional medical colleges worldwide recommend women with a higher body mass index (BMI) lose weight before conception. While diet and lifestyle interventi…

Randomised controlled trials of behavioural nudges delivered through text messages to increase influenza and COVID-19 vaccine uptake among pregnant women (EPIC study) in Australia Open
The nudges delivered via SMS resulted in small increases in COVID-19 and influenza vaccination uptake among pregnant women. Considering the very low cost of bulk SMS, these nudges may be cost-effective interventions at a population level.

Development of Machine Learning–Based Risk Prediction Models to Predict Rapid Weight Gain in Infants: Analysis of Seven Cohorts Open
Background Rapid weight gain (RWG) during infancy, defined as an upward crossing of one centile line on a weight growth chart, is highly predictive of subsequent obesity risk. Identification of infant RWG could facilitate obesity risk asse…

Antenatal Physical Activity Interventions and Pregnancy Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis With a Focus on Trial Quality Open
Background Guidelines recommending regular physical activity in pregnancy for improving pregnancy outcomes are informed by published meta‐analyses. Inclusion of randomised trials of poor methodological quality may bias effect estimates. Ob…

Investigating discrepancies in findings between rigorous randomized trials and meta‐analyses evaluating pregnancy interventions to limit gestational weight gain Open
Summary Introduction Robust randomized trials consistently demonstrate little impact from diet and physical activity interventions on gestational weight gain (GWG) and clinical outcomes, although meta‐analyses report some benefit. Our aim …

Regular weighing of pregnant women: a relic from a bygone era Open
The practice of regularly weighing women during pregnancy dates to the 1940s in a strategy introduced by the government of the UK to monitor the effect of post-World War II food rationing on the maintenance of a healthy pregnancy [(1)]. Th…

Nudging towards COVID-19 and influenza vaccination uptake in medically at-risk children: EPIC study protocol of randomised controlled trials in Australian paediatric outpatient clinics Open
Introduction Children with chronic medical diseases are at an unacceptable risk of hospitalisation and death from influenza and SARS-CoV-2 infections. Over the past two decades, behavioural scientists have learnt how to design non-coercive…

Fetal Growth and Adiposity of Infants Born Large for Gestational Age in Three Harmonized Randomized Trials Open
Objective Infants born large for gestational age (LGA) are at an increased risk of short- and longer-term adverse outcomes. Understanding fetal growth and adiposity and their trajectories may help inform interventions to prevent birth of L…
